Handling the Media

Handling the Media

The news and truth are not the same thing.

Walter Lippmann, American journalist, 1889–1974

The press or broadcast media want to talk to you, to get your views or comments.

Your first reaction is to become stressed, then comes the flight response, maybe even fight. Neither is appropriate. More than that – running away from the media only does you and your organisation a disservice, no matter whether the circumstances are good or bad.

Learn how the media works. Embrace it. Deal with it positively, proactively and professionally. You’ll reap the rewards.

This section shows you how to successfully communicate through the media, whatever the situation.

News is something, someone, somewhere doesn’t want to see published – everything else is advertising.

William Randolph Hearst, US newspaper magnate
